Firstly thank you to all exhibitors for the honour of judging their Dalmatians and special thanks to my excellent stewards Ellen and Frank. I should like to make a few general comments, I was
concerned to see some level bites, this really needs to be watched in breeding programmes. Lack of forechest is another problem, the Dalmatian is a road going dog capable of great endurance, and he should be strong
in his front as well as the rear, he needs plenty of heart and lung room, a cathedral front is not correct. A more minor issue is tail carriage especially in the males, a high tail will always detract from the
overall picture and can be a deciding factor in final decisions. On the plus side there were some truly outstanding examples of the breed, temperaments overall were very good, a few not so confident, but
hopefully in time they will begin to enjoy showing. The bitches were stronger in quality than the males but that is probably true of most breeds. In the upper bitch classes I was spoilt for choice, and this is where
I prefer the FCI system because you can award an excellent, and tell the exhibitor that you really appreciate their dog, whereas a lower placing or no card does not do some of these dogs justice.
