Leeds 2009 Judged by Mr A Wight

A lovely entry with not too many absentees. Things which struck me noticeably was the number of dogs which, when stacked, give the impression that they are going to be good movers as the shape is right & they have balance.Then too often the reality is that once the lead is loosened & the dog is moved, the picture almost crumbles & a quick re-think is needed.
I thought a number of muzzles were too short, some even lippy, straight shoulders were too much in evidence & I felt quite a number of dogs threw their chances away by being insufficiently trained to move in a controlled fashion resulting in crabbing, over extension, flashing hocks, loose pasterns etc;
The improvement in livers was also a surprise to me & indeed it was pointed out to me that several class winners were of that colour. I was delighted with my top winners & have high hopes for some of the younger class winners.

PD (7,1 a)

1 BP Polhill's Fincham Hurruicane Jack at Kymvale,
good start to the day with this very promising liver.excellent rich colour & well decorated, stacked his outline flows, not overlong in loin, good wither height, well ribbed, sufficient forechest, tight in elbow in stance, good second thighs, moved out with a degree of confidence & style;
2 Burrows' Daedalus Blue at Shacarlu, bit of a problem this youngster as he stands very upright in shoulder, appears long cast as he persists in overstretching his hindquarters so his appeal is not instant All male in head, very good foreface, clean neck, very well ribbed.A little long in loin but he is well muscled in hindquarters & really looks at his best on the move;
3 Dodds & Pearson's Kelevra Hudson Hawk

JD (6,1)

1 Williams' Phadante Brighton Rock,
another liver & he appealed straight away as he is totally unexaggerated. presenting an eyecatching outline, super reach of neck setting well into decent shoulder, backline is level, hindquarters well muscled & his side action was controlled & suggested power;
2 Goodswen's Tamilanda Pink Vigilante from Alphadal, no doubting this lad is a male, strong head, excellent length & finish in foreface, bright eyes of good shape & colour, like I has a more than useful neck, nice layback in shoulder, straight forelegs with a hint of spring in pastern. Not quite so positive in hock as he went away from me though side on he is impressive;
3 Beaumont & Croft's Koroyza Candy Man.

GD (2)

1 Quayle's Buffrey The Shaded Sun at Cubalibre,
heavily decorated black of lovely make & shape, good head type, moderate stop, lovely eyes & good ears, scores in weight of bone, tight feet & level back-A handful on the move, has a tendency to toe in when fore viewed. Will look better when he settles;
2 Toynton's Elaridge Escort of Merrybriar, liver, longer cast when compared to 1 & stands with a soft backline. Good head planes, fine ears, well laid shoulder, decent upper arm, ample second thigh, hocks are well let down. He disappointed me on the move as he lacked the rhythm I had expected.

PGD (7,1)

1 McCarthy's Kilndandy Old Copper,
oh dear, another liver. Medium height, lovely balanced profile when he is standing, clean lines, lovely head with such a good expression, really good neck. well-ribbed, tight in elbow & firm in hock. well decorated, spotless in presentation & kept his shape in profile. Goes a little close in hock when he moves away;
2 Adderley's Leishart Chicago Bear, what a handsome b/s boy this one is, liked his outline, clean cut & denoting endurance & power, has such strong limbs, tight feet, well muscled hindquarters. Not quite such a good fore assembly as 1 & just tends to over-reach in profile action;
3 Ayers' Elaridge Evolution.

MLD (2)

Two quite different dogs. 1 Watling's Dalesbred Djamaica at Cragavillie, black decoration, well proportioned in shape.A little steep in upper arm but good spring & depth of rib. Nice head balance. Eye could be darker to advantage. Excellent clean neck used well, backline is firm & has a steady if unspectacular side action;
2 Kay's Kaytian One Kool Kat, this liver is hard work for his handler, stands weak in hock & over extends on the move so losing his balance in outline. Strong doggy skull, good eyes & ears, but he is a little throaty.

LD (7,2)

1 Beaumont & Croft's Koroyza Grippi II Miracolo,
this strong male is so full of himself that he almost threw it away. Finally he was stacked & he looks like a powerhouse which could work very hard. Big ribs, nice width in chest, plenty of heartroom, strong loin, really well angulated. Once settled to move around the ring he showed lovely reach & drive;
2 Page's Winflash Harvey Wallbanger, totally different being lighter framed all through. Certainly elegant, nicely ribbed, appealing reach of neck & back)ine,well set & carried tail, side action so controlled & efficient. Lighter decorated than some but he has a definite charm;
3 Thomas' Tollwood Highland Chieftan at Philcarthom.

OD (9,1)

1 CC, Bliss' Ch Riverdore Rags To Riches,
somewhat exuberant b/s all male, 'look at me I'm game for anything" sort of dog, once settled is so balanced, well bodied, in the hardest of conditions & most importantly is so balanced in side action, holding his shape & showing reach & drive. I recently group placed him & here he behaved well until the BOB challenge where he scented something or other & he would rather have been outside the ring than in it;
2 RCC, Quayle's Ir Ch CubalibreTop Spot, really smart b/s chap who pushed I all the way. Loved his make & shape, so balanced & built on clean cut lines, lovely bone & feet but like some others, he can stand very straight stifled which detracts. Head appealed, all male with a degree of nobility in expression, hope gets his title;
3 Casey's Ch/lr Ch Camargue Calvin Klein.

PB (11,3)

1 Dodds & Pearson's Kelevra Mercury Rising,
just 6 months but the gave the most controlled display here, hope she grows on a bit as she is a lovely balanced shape. Nice head, well weighted bone, good reach of neck, even striding action which gave her the nod;
2 Smallwod's Lascelles Lady Marmalade, promising liver bitch who moment appears a litde long cast Pretty headed, good length of neck, well ribbed, like I has a composed, smooth side action;
3 Johnson's Tynevale Take Three To Tango.

JB (14)

1 Tison's Dusky Donzelle De Puech Barrayre.
see she is from France. Pretty headed, elegant in stance, so shapely, devoid of exaggeration anywhere, just curves & straight lines where required, thought her glamorous & very promising.Would wish her handler would take her a little slower around the ring to enable her to show of her excellent side action to better advantage;
2 L Lady Marmalade;
3Vockings & Smethhurst's Fortunes Enchantress.

GB (10,1)

1Clarke's Klarkeson Royal Destiny,
with this pretty expression you could never doubt her sex, very feminine yet has substance, good bone, legs & feet, well ribbed, outline pleased me with smooth backline & well let down hocks. A litde close in hock going away but she does look so smooth striding in profile;
2 Fox & Pashle/s Ellemstra Intuition, heavier decorated b/s who is a size larger all through. Certainly bitchy in head & expression. Bit narrow in forechest & her side action proved to be a bit erratic as she would be rhythmic for so long then lose the pattern a bit so her topline went;
3 Dinsdale's Koroyza Candy Floss at Dalesbred.

PGB (14,3)

1 Dusky Donzelle De P B;
2 Cooper's ' Caldecacre Couronne under Charmindals,
rather nice bitch who was immaculate in coat & condition, had an air of self belief & importance about her, liked her head balance, such good dark eyes & lovely expression, scores in reach of neck, depth of rib & hind angulation. Could be firmer in front action when fore viewed;
3 Addy's Creaganbrec Raven Black.

MLB (6,1)

1 Neal's Time Traveller to Tolkain,
had instant appeal as she simply looked the part on the stack, balanced, shapely outline, excellent neck & sweep over the croup, well laid shoulders, nice bend of stifle & pretty as a picture. Felt she could have extended herself a bit more on the move, but she was true;
2 Page's Winflash Magic Mystery, another bitch with lots to like. Feel I would like a little more layback in shoulder to get her.forelegs more under her on the stack. Excellent neck & backline, has enough width in second thigh, very flashy mover in profile, nice head, very good muzzle length & such good eyes;
3 Pickup's Roadcoach Ribbons & Roses.

LB (15.2)

1 CC & BOB, Alexander's Offordale White Lady,
thought her quite lovely & she gave a five star performance, so well constructed, everything fits so well to give a harmonious picture that gladdens the eye whether when standing gazing adoringly at her handler or when she is moving, has managed to combine that difficult thing of being elegant yet still looking totally capable of working hard for hours, really lovely example of the breed. I am told this makes her up & she is certainly a worthy titleholder, hard pushed by the runner-up & several others;
2 Munro's Luiema Sea Lavender, liver who gave her handler a hard time. if you can get to keep still for long enough, presents a lovely picture indeed; Head & expression I loved, when not fidgeting she looks the part & it was that which got her this high award as she, more often than not, was pulling so hard to as she circled the ring she lost her composure & shape. Has some style;
3 Fort's Shulune Fantazy On Ice.

OB (14,3)

1 RCC. Fort's Lady Of Light from Shulune,
another right out of the top drawer & I believe she too has recently gained her crown & I am not surprised. Stacked she simply says 'a class Dalmatian' & I couldn't wait to go over her, ticks most of the boxes, graceful, has shape, style & was a credit in presentation, the ultimate showgirl, moved around the ring with such rhythm & an evenness of stride that I could have watched her all day,
2 Moore's Ch Manchando Choc Chip Cookie from Fincham, here was another close contender for top awards, my brief notes say it all 'stunning liver, loved her construction, oozes charm & femininity, a class act of ch quality & so beautifully presented, a joy on the move';
3 Graham-Weall's Phidgity Parisienne.
