Darlington Dog Show Society - Championship Show 2008DARLINGTON 2008 - DALMATIANS

Conditions underfoot were not going to make judging easy. Fluent ground covering action is a high priority for me when assessing the breed and, as could be expected, some exhibits were much happier than others slopping through the mud and long grass. Poor length and angulation of upper arms were my main concern, temperaments were excellent, mouths good while a few were in poor coat or suffering Dally rash and had to go down the line as a result.

VET D (1)

1 Fort's CHARMING FIREFLY AT SHALUNE ShCM. Tall b/s, pleasing head and expression, flat skull, good pigmentation and well broken ears. Well sprung ribcage, good front, level topline and well angulated hindquarters. Moving well covering the ground.

MPD (1)

1 Story-Taylor's MAJOR TORNADO AT KESTEVEN. Well marked b/s and very promising at just 6 months. Nice for size and well balanced with a lovely neckline into well defined withers, good shoulder and level topline. Lovely head, dark eye and pigmentation, nicely broken ears which he uses well for a baby, all adding up to a really pleasing expression. Good front, nicely rounded bone, tightly knuckled feet and good depth to chest. Well set tail, of good length and thick at the root, carried well on the move. Well angulated behind and muscle tone well on its way. Moving with drive and confidence, just needs to tighten up which is to be expected.

PD (3)

1 Goff Leggett's WASHAKIE NUTCRACKER PRINCE. Ideal for size, b/s lightly marked perhaps but his white coat is gleaming, he is so well balanced and has quality all through. Good head, dark eye and darkly pigmented eyerims, good skull and well set ears which are well broken. Good neck which he uses really well, good depth of chest and well sprung ribcage, strong level topline, well set tail and very well muscled throughout which enables him to move out so well, covering the ground soundly with freedom and flowing action. Best Puppy.

2 Tingey's HOLDERNESS HILLBILLY BY DALLYDOR. L/s, taller and a touch broader in skull than 1 but has pleasing head, eye and expression, well broken ears. Round bone and preferred his feet to 1. Sufficient depth of chest and ribs well sprung, well angulated hindquarters, his tail is just a touch lowset. Moving well with a good topline and covering the ground.

3 McCarthy's KILNDANDY OLD COPPER

JD (2,1)

1 Hartley & Griffith's CREAGANBREC THE FAVOURITE AT MIRAGUA. Attractively marked, of good type and very square being very strong and compact in loin. Nice head, dark eye and pigment, with well broken ears all giving pleasing expression. Excellent round bone carried right down to his pasterns and lovely tight feet. Good neck and well laid shoulder, good depth of chest, level topline and thickly rooted tail which is very well set. Good second thigh and moving very well behind , just careless in front action today. Keeping a good outline on the move and covering the ground freely.

PGD (8,1 abs)

1 Jubb's DALMARK THE DOUBLE AGENT JW. Very nicely marked dark l/s on gleaming background, won the class with some to spare. Masculine but not coarse, really liked him in head, eye and skull, well set ears which he uses well and are well broken. Well set neck which he carries well into decent shoulder, well sprung ribcage of good depth, good feet and bone. Really well balanced throughout, strong and very powerful in loin and tail set and carriage very pleasing. Well muscled and carrying himself well both standing and on the move.

2 Kazana's DALZANA KING OF JOPPA. Well marked on body but appearing plainer in head than 1, however proportions are good and has good pigmentation, nice eye, good front with round bone and good feet, nice neck into decent layback of shoulder, though not quite so good in upper arm as 1. Would like his tailset a touch higher. Well angulated and muscled hindquarters, moving out with drive.

3 Whiting's DALESBRED DJAMAICA T CRAGVALLIE

LD (6, 1 abs)

1 Lamb's DALPETRO DETTORI JW. Really well balanced and beautifully marked b/s, loved his head which is refined yet masculine and full of quality, excellent pigmentation and super dark eye . Lovely straight front, well muscled neckline which flows into well defined wither and strong compact loin. Good depth of chest with well sprung ribcage, good pasterns, bone could be rounder for perfection. Well angulated and in superb muscular condition, a superb showman, attentive to his handler and not letting up for a moment. Sound coming and going and very fluent in profile keeping a good topline and covering the ground well.

2 Page's WINFLASH HARVEY WALLBANGER JW. Very soundly made b/s with alot to like. Pleasing head and expression, though his markings make him appear a little plain. Good feet, round bone, good neck, well defined withers, well sprung ribcage and level topline. Good hind angulation with good width to the thigh, well set tail which is thick at root. On the move very sound coming and going, in profile has an easy free action keeping a good outline.

3 Beeston's LEAVESLAKE TIME OUT FOR SANADAL

OD (7, 2 abs). Close class quality wise, first four could easily change places another day as I suspect 2, 3, and 4 were all unhappy with the ground conditions where 1 simply sailed on through without a care in the world.

1 Petersen's CH. BUFFREY BEAU BELL AT DAEDALUS. . Upstanding mature b/s, so well balanced and a lovely showman, really using himself and never once giving his competitors a chance to outshine him. Loved his head, maybe his eye could be darker for perfection, but it does not detract from his expression in the least. Lovely for bone and excellent feet, well sprung ribcage, carried well back and short couplings which are very strongly muscled. Good turn of stifle, well defined hocks and correct tail set and carriage. In first class coat and muscular condition, very sound, fluent and effortless on the move and made nothing of the conditions. CC & BOB

2 Goff Leggett's CH. WASHAKIE CHIEF AS GREAT AS JW. . Superb b/s, in his prime and thought he would be my winner on first appraisal. Certainly can match 1 in overall quality, for balance and on the move. Lovely in head and eye with superb expression, lovely neck into strong well muscled level back, tailset good and hind angulation excellent. Prefer his decorations to 1 and he is slightly better in depth of chest and perhaps cleaner on the wither, however I felt not giving his all today and just going off the boil at crucial moments. Reserve CC

3 Stocks' CH. DALMARK THE SHADED MOON AT NOSPAR JW

Vet B (2)

1 Gibbs' PHADANTE NORWEIGEN WOOD ShCM. Have done this lovely bitch well in the past and she has maintained her quality. Really well balanced with pleasing head, well broken ears, good pigmentation. Good neck flowing into well laid shoulder. Short coupled body, good depth of chest, tightly knuckled feet, round bone. In lovely coat and condition. Moves so well with soundness, freedom and drive. Best Veteran.

2 Pilgrim'sWEAPONNESS BELLBIRD. Nicely marked l/s 12 year old. Feminine head and appealing eye, flat skull, good pigmentation and well set ears which are nicely broken. Nice neck, good level topline and well set tail which is thick at root. Particularly noted her lovely depth of chest, certainly one of the very best in this entry. Well muscled for her age and moving well.

MPB (1)

1 Thomas' STEWARDESS CHINOOK WITH PHILCARTHOM. Liked her alot, has quality and femininity combined, of nice size and so well balanced for her age. Feminine in head, very nicely marked, well sprung ribcage which is carried well back, well defined withers, round bone, good feet which are particularly well padded, arched neck and fairly short coupled. Well angulated hindquarters, good tail set and carriage and has good width in the thigh. At just 6 months she still has more muscling up to do but she is so well put together and moves so soundly coming and going feel sure she will have an exciting future.

PB (10,3)

1 Tingey's PHAELAND PHEONIX PHOREVER BY DALLYDOR. Lovely well balanced l/s, a real showgirl, attentive and feminine. Appealing head, good eye and pigmentation, nice ears which are well broken. R eally good depth of chest which won her the class over 2 , good round bone carried well down to pasterns, flowing neckline into well defined wither and well laid shoulder. Good depth of chest, short coupled and powerful across the loin which gives her strong, powerful action. Well marked on clear white background and in good coat and condition. BPB

2 Newton's TYNEVALE TUSCAN TART. Very nicely made l/s who has a great deal to like, but not happy in todays conditions. Nicely marked and strongly muscled up, with excellent tail carriage. Excels on the move where she is so fluent and effortless, had she performed at her best could have swapped places . Worth some work I feel from her handler as much more could be made of this bitch.

3 Navarro's CALDECACRE CHUZZLESPOTS

JB (5)

1 Polhill's KYMVALE SAVANNAH. Very elegant and well balanced. Appealing head, eye could be darker, superb pigmentation and nicely marked head with well broken ears. Strength and arch to neck give an air of quality, good depth of chest and well sprung ribcage, short coupled and strong in loin, tailset a touch low. Nice round bone and tight well padded feet. Flows on the move with really good extension and drive and soundest in the class coming and going. In good coat and hard muscular condition, her black spots are a little flecked but her overall balance and movement won her the class.

2 Christie's SOPHTSPOT SNAP CRACKLE N POP JW. Quality b/s, very typy and feminine who I liked immensely. Finer than 1 all through, very nicely marked with good head, dark eye and rims which give her a lovely expression. Would like more depth to her chest and felt she was not quite as positive in front action in todays conditions although she was free and fluent in profile and kept a lovely outline.

3 Newton's TYNEVALE TUSCAN TART

PGB (19,4). Difficult class with such a variety of types and movement somewhat wayward on many.

1 Lamb's DALPETRO DESDEMONA JW. Delightful balanced b/s, I felt she almost charmed me into giving her the class! Appealing in head, dark expressive eye and lovely pigment. Compact and square achieved by short couplings, decent angulations front and rear and strong loin. Sufficient depth of chest, well sprung ribcage, round bone and decent feet. A happy attentive showgirl and covering the ground on the move.

2 Smith's CHRISTINES GIRL. B/s, more heavily marked than 1 and not so appealing in head and expression. Good topline and spring of rib, though perhaps could have more depth. Good feet and well angulated in hindquarters which are nicely muscled. Good tailset and carriage. Would like her a little more feminine all through but moving out well.

3 Williams' PHADANTE BOSSANOVA BABY

LB (11) Three lovely exhibits at the head of this class - would be happy to award any of them a CC.

1 Cuthbertson's KALSIDONI GARNET JW. Totally feminine in outlook, beautifully put together from her super clean head, flat skull and good length of muzzle, dark eye and lovely ears, through a nicely arched neck into strong topline onto well rounded and strongly muscled hindquarters. Particularly like her correctness in front and shoulder, superb depth in chest, round bone, spring to pastern and tight feet. Firm, rounded hindquarters, well turned stifle and strong hocks, really well set tail and perfect carriage standing and on the move. Nicely marked with jet black spots on a brilliant white coat but will win it for me every time on the move where she is absolutely foot perfect coming and going and in profile has powerful long stride, great freedom and an indefinable touch of elegance. Put up a lovely performance and never let up for a moment. Pleased to award her the CC - her third.

2 Alexander's OFFORDALE WHITE LADY. Lovely well balanced b/s, certainly title quality, really pleases all through and many of the remarks for 1 apply. Feminine in head, well marked and producing a lovely flowing topline in stance and on the move. Sound, free moving and elegant, she is a touch shorter in loin than 1 but I felt could not match her pigmentation on the day nor her outstandingly sound movement, but I do not think she will be waiting long for CCs to come her way..

3 Story Taylor's KESTEVEN RAINBOW CHASER JW

OB (7, 2 abs)

1 Dunnachie's CH. DVOJICA VOODOO JW. Well known and such a well schooled bitch who has made it difficult for her opposition to get past her. Attractive head and expression, though would like her a touch more feminine with more length to muzzle for perfection. Good neckline, lovely depth of chest, excellent front, bone, feet and strong loin. Very well put together, ideal for size and so well balanced in body, scores highly on the move but felt she was carrying her tail higher than usual and was not as fluent in these conditions as I have seen her. Well marked and in good coat, her hard muscular condition made her appear a touch loaded on the shoulder today. These three things combined swayed the balance in favour of the Limit winner, but very pleased to have judged her . Reserve CC.

2 Roach's CH. HELE ALEATORY IN HOLDERNESS JW ShCM. Taller but full of quality and very well balanced. Lovely feminine head of good proportions, good dark eye and soft expression, well broken ears and strong nicely arched neck, good depth of chest and well sprung ribcage, good round bone, tight feet, well let down in stifle. Well marked on brilliant white coat. Moving well covering the ground but just outshone by the showmanship of 1 and would like her a touch smaller for perfection.

3 Dinsdale's DALESBRED MARIETTE

JACKIE KITCHENER (Judge)
