NOEDC SPRING OPEN 2001

Judge: Mrs. M Cuthbertson

Judges comments in "italics."

"All exhibits were sound in temperament and certainly showed no cause for concern. I believe that benching and layouts of some shows give rise to problems of noisy, bad tempered dogs.
I found some quality dogs in prime condition that are a credit to their owners. On the whole coats were in very good condition. I was however disappointed to find several exhibits with short backs and short tails inevitably resulting in crabbing action rather than the desired forward reach with drive from the rear. Some had to pay the price for carrying too much weight."

Veteran Dog (4 entries, 0 absent)
1 - Dakata Drunken Duncan At Dalmark - Hale
"At seven and a half years is new to this class. A quality dog well constructed and with plenty of substance. Well proportioned masculine head with correct ear carriage and dark eye. Good shoulder placement, clean neck and well defined withers. Level topline and strong over loin with powerful hind-quarters. Moved with driving action."

2 - Ch. Dalehouse Mister Gascoigne - Parkinson
"Eleven year old black spotted. Still all male who continues to display lots of qualities. Felt today he was not as positive at the rear."

Developing well in head with correct ear carriage, deep eye colour, good length muzzle and correct bite. Nice length of neck into withers, level back. Well rounded rump with decent width of thigh and good hocks. Perfect tail carriage. Pleasing decoration completes the picture. Showed he can move with purpose and drive."
2 - Spiredals Just Black At Tamilanda - Whincup
"Another quality puppy slightly older and taller than first. Good demeanour. Well developed in head, good ear carriage, beautiful dark eyes with keen expression. Reachy neck, Level topline. Movement erratic, but as he matures, should come together."

"20 month old black spotted. Rangy dog, still needing time to body up and mature. Good deep pigment on pure white coat. Well developed in head, reachy neck. Nicely angulated rear. Not settled for handler so difficult to assess movement."

Novice Dog (3,0)
1 - Frankish Brave Highlander - Gillian & Hill
"Placed fourth in Puppy Dog class. Almost a year old. Bold black spots on sparkling white coat so typical from this kennel. A youngster who is at the in-between stage having a growth spurt. Looked "bum high" and lost his topline when standing and moving but plenty to like about him, correct size with lots of substance. Well off for bone and well conditioned."

"Different make and shape to first. Rich liver spotting. Longer cast than first and not as settled for handler."

Strong bone and lots of substance but not overdone in any department. Proud head carriage with good eye colour. Correct front assembly with width of forechest. Elbows carried close. Pasterns nicely sprung. Cleanly defined withers, level topline, rounded ribcage, with good depth of brisket. Firm over loin and well rounded croup with perfect tail set. Good layback of shoulder and strong rounded forelegs going down to good spring of pasterns and cat like feet. Deep capacious chest with well sprung ribs. Held topline level. Strength over loin with rounded croup and correct tail set. Strong hocks. Produced a long powerful stride with plenty of drive when asked to move. Unfortunately, when it came to the challenge, he'd lost his animation and presence."
